Jan Huyghen van Linschoten, (1563—1611) was an important Dutch traveler and chart-maker.

Linschoten spent six years (1583–89) as bookkeeper to the Portugese Archbishop of Goa in India. After his return to the Netherlands, he used the information he had gained to produce the "Itinerario" a valuable work used by many Dutch East India Company (VOC) captains and which stimulatied early Dutch and English trade expeditions to India and the East Indies.

In 1594 and 1595 he sailed with the Dutch navigator Willem Barents in search of a northeast passage to the Orient via the Arctic. Both voyages ended icebound in the Kara Sea.
