Detailed and boldly engraved county map of Sussex, divided into territorial subdivisions (each known as a ‘rape’) and showing the developing road network, estates such as Petworth House and locations such as Battle Abbey and Arundel Castle.
The map is bordered with locally discovered antiquities including a selection of Roman coins, the late 1st Century ‘Pudens Stone’ (or ‘Chichester Inscription’) a damaged marble slab found in 1723, and the 13th Century Latin ‘Magnus Inscription’ - the engraved archway of Church of St John sub Castro in Lewes dedicated to Danish general named Magnus
