Title: Essexia

Width: 14 inches / 36 cm
Height: 11 inches / 28 cm

Description:
Attractive early county map of Essex engraved by William Kip for William Camden's "Brittania", a history of Great Britain and one of the most important early books published in Britain. Unlike most of the maps in Camden's work, this map is attributed to neither William Saxton nor John Norden, and is therefore likely a combination of both men's work.

The map was first engraved in 1607 for the First Edition of William Camden’s atlas (Latin) and re-engraved in its first English Edition in 1610, with pagination added in the lower left corners of the map. This map being in its third state and numbered 18.
