Description:

|
Fabulously detailed bird's-eye view of Cairo showing individual buildings and with reference to important sites in English and Dutch. Merchant caravans fill the foreground of the scene. The Pyramids of Giza are amusingly illustrated on the far right.
This view was published by John Ogilby in his translation of Olfert Dapper's Description of Africa (1670). The view was copied directly from Dapper as well, though the English key was added for the Ogilby edition. Dapper's view was itself heavily based on an earlier view by Matteo Pagono from 1549.
