Four early bird's eye views on a double-page spread of the cities of Kozhikode, Hormuz, Kannur and Elmina from the very first atlas of city plans, “Civitates Orbis Terrarum” by George Braun and Frans Hogenberg – a six volume atlas published between 1572 and 1617.
The cities depicted are;
- Kozhikode (formerly Calicut) and as stated in the title of the map, a “famous Indian centre of Trade”
- Hormuz, an island at the entrance of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman
- Kannur, a coastal city in the state of Kerala, India
- and Elmina on the south coast of Ghana in West Africa.
