Four celestial maps showing the night sky as it appears during the month of May. The upper two maps show the night sky in the northern hemisphere at approximately 35 degrees N. latitude (southern Spain), while the bottom two show the southern hemisphere sky at approximately 25 degrees S. latitude (southern Brazil/Uruguay). The two maps on the left are facing northward while the two on the right are facing southward.
Jose Comas Sola, a Spanish/Catalonian astronomer who served as the first director of Barcelona's Fabra Observatory, included these views in his illustrated study of astronomy, El Cielo, Novísima Astronomía Ilustrada (1929). He is credited with the discovery of 11 comets and was the first person to discover evidence that Saturn's moon Titan might have an atmosphere.
