Description:
Orientated East to West, this map shows part of the coast of Burma or Myanmar and part of the coast of Siam or Thailand as well as the Andaman Islands. The map is centred on the Myeik Archipelago previously known as the Mergui Archipelago. The island of Phuket is marked as "Iong Salang".
This was the first printed map of this region with such accuracy. Van Keulen was given access to restricted manuscript charts in the possession of the Dutch East India Company, who were the greatest European mariners sailing these waters and who guarded their cartographic secrets jealously. It is for this reason that this volume of van Keulen's work is called "The Secret Atlas" and the charts within it are in such demand by collectors. Original hand colour.
