Description:

|
This rare map of Great Britain is unsigned but attributed to Matthaus Merian. It was thought to have been published in a work about the history of Europe in circa 1658. Geographically it is based on a map first issued by Jansson in Amsterdam in 1638, but reduced in size. Decorative elements include a large Royal coat of arms, many sailing ships, and a scrollwork box containing an inset of the Orkneys. [GB1907] |
