Attractive and rare map of Kent with a large cartouche on the lower left and an elaborate dedication to Heneage Finch. The latter was Earl of Winchelsey and had a long and varied career with many connections to the county, including Lord Lieutenant of Kent, Governor of Dover Castle and Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. He was also reputed to have fathered sixteen children, both in England and the Ottoman Empire. [KENT638] |
