This small map of Pennsylvania bears the distinction of being the first printed map of what approximately became the state. Although the border with New York in the North is labelled as "not yet settled", ultimately, this became modern Pennsylvania. The geography was based on Lewis Evans's survey of the Middle Colonies and its inclusion in the Magazine was due to its importance as a battle ground during the Seven Years War or French Indian War as it was known in North America. The engraver is Thomas Kitchin. Coloured. [USA8909] |
