Description:

Rare, separately issued folding map centered on Afghanistan but also encompassing Norther India, Turkestan and Persia. The map was used to illustrate a Russian move to appropriate a large swathe of territory South of the Merv Oasis in Turkestan. War was imminent but was averted by last ditch diplomacy led on the British side by Lord Dufferin. The end of this dispute led to the establishment of the Anglo-Russian Boundary Commission. All of these maneuvres were part of The Great Game. Printed colour. SL [IC2549] |
