Stunning Georgian sea chart of the coast of China and the mouth of the Pearl River, with early depiction of Hong Kong. This is one of the earliest and most famous depictions of the island, labelled on the map as "Fanchinchow or Heongkong". This chart was printed during the Napoleonic Wars for a merchant mariner sailing from London or Portsmouth to the Far East. An inset details the routes taken by ships from the Bocca Tigris or Tiger's Mouth to Canton. [SEAS4870] |
