The Caucasus, Georgia, and Armenia. Beautifully detailed and decorative map of the countries around the Caspian Sea. One of the great 18th century maps of this region. This is the Dutch edition of Guillaume de L'Isle's seminal map which was used as a source for nearly half a century. De L'Isle himself cites multiple sources for his work, including Soskam Sobbas, Prince of Georgia as well as a map of the Caspian Sea by Carl van Verden and S. Simonov presented to the Royal Academy of Sciences in Paris by Peter the Great. Original hand colour. |
