Important early maps of the ancient site of Kokura (now Kitakyusu) and from Kurume south to Nagasaki.
Kaempfer's work was not only important for its maps but also for the history of science and for the annals of natural history. He was a doctor and his first priority was the cataloguing of Japanese herbs and plants. His maps of Japan and South East Asia were important and accurate, and used by mapmakers as a primary source for over a century.
