Description:

|
One of the earliest available modern maps of Arabia i.e. not based on the classical geography of Claudius Ptolemy. Published by Ruscelli in his 1574 edition of Ptolemy's "Geographia", but based on a 1548 map by Giacomo Gastaldi. The Gastaldi map, generally thought to be the first truly modern map of Arabia, is now extremely rare. This map by Ruscelli is an enlarged, but otherwise unchanged, version of the Gastaldi map.
Strong impression with only very minor plate wear in the title. Italian text on verso. [MEAST4305] |
