The most detailed map of the approach to Mount Everest from southern Nepal. It is based on a pioneering photogrammetric survey by Erwin Scheider, a gifted Austrian surveryor who was part of the 1955 International Himalayan Expedition led by Norman G. Dyhrenfurth. The survey was converted into a map by the cartographer Fritz Ebster and to this day is regarded as one of the finest examples of mountain cartography every published. It was produced for the German Alpine Club and the Austrian Alpine Club and has served as a template for maps of this region ever since its publication. The detail is extraordinary, showing paths and walls with contours and colour being used to portray the extraordinary topography of the Himalayas culminating in the portrayal of the majestic Mount Everest on the upper right corner.
A cornerstone map for any collection of mountaneering material.
