Curious map of the Holy Land and Mesopotamia purporting to show the location of the Garden of Eden, or Paradise. Features a large vignette of Adam and Eve with the Tree of Knowledge. 17th-century scholars believed that Paradise was located along the banks of the Tigris River in central Iraq. The travelogue on the verso of the page describes a voyage through the region, including a trip to the Island of Eden which is located 12 miles upriver from ancient Nineveh. Coloured. [MEAST4307] |
