Description:

|
Harbour and city plan of Messina, Sicily, with an index listing the town's numerous fortifications. Decorated with battling naval ships.
Published in Nicolas Tindal's "The Continuation of Mr. Rapin's History of England", a translation and extension of an earlier work by the French historian Paul de Rapin, sieur de Thoyras. Not only did Tindal translate Rapin's text into English, he also enlarged and updated the work to include a history from the Glorious Revolution through to the contemporary reign of George II. He also added large, attractive maps to illustrate the text of which this is an example.
