Description:
Uncommon map of Dublin showing the city during a period of enormous expansion. The fact that the mapmaker, William Corbet, could produce multiple updated editions of this map (1812, 1816, 1820, 1826) is a testament to the city's rapid growth.
Almost every street is named, as are most important public buildings. Compared to the Corbet's map of 1820, development now extends further into the eastern half of the city towards the docks. A new penitentiary has also been constructed, and the workhouse and asylum have both been expanded. [IRE1998] |
