Description:

|
Detailed street plan of South London, including Lambeth, Vauxhall, Newington, Borough, Southwark, Kennington, and Walworth. Originally drawn and engraved by Edward Weller, the large 9-sheet map of London of which this is the south-central section, was republished in 1863 by the firm of Cassell, Petter & Galpin. It was then printed once more in 1868 with updates added by John Dower. In this 1868 edition there is a heavy emphasis on the newly-built railways. The route of the Metropolitan District Railway (a precursor to the London Underground's District Line) is shown under construction near Westminster.
