Description:

|
Striking late 19th Century twelve-inch terrestrial globe focusing on the physical geography of the Earth. Ocean currents, river systems and mountainous topography are shown in great detail. The globes uses cartographic data provided by D. Reimers in Berlin.
The Suez Canal is shown as complete (it was completed in 1869), Serbia and Bosnia are shown as independent (1878 following the Treaty of Berlin), British Bechuanaland (now Botswana) is yet to have been formed (1885) and Oklahoma is still shown as Indian Territory (this occurs until around 1891), hence the dating of the globe to circa 1880.
The 12 inch orb is presented atop a black turned wooden base and with brass half-merdian, giving the globe a traditional silhouette.
