Description:

This fabulous Georgian folding map of Bath shows the city during a period of great expansion. Several large, planned developments are drawn in outline, particularly east of the River Avon. The route of a proposed canal from Bath to Bristol is shown with dashed lines. The canal was never built as the invention of steam engines made a railway more feasible, though the rail line from Bath to Bristol does largely follow this same planned route.
An index below the map lists the city's most important public buildings, including its churches, baths, and hospitals. The map's title is capped with a fine illustration of the famous Royal Crescent. [SOM514] |
