Description:
|
|
Glorious rendition of the former Principality of Transylvania, now in modern Romania. The map was almost certainly printed to commemorate the liberation of the Principality from Ottoman control. After the defeat of the Ottomans during the Great Turkish War of 1683-99, the Principality came under the influence of the Hapsburgs in Austria until 1711, when it was subsumed into the Austrian Empire. The rich original hand colour is of particular note.[CEU2232] |
