Large sea chart of the North Sea showing the coasts of Britain, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, and Denmark. Highlighted in gold throughout, particularly in the compass rose and in the large lettering across the middle of the map which reads 'Mer Septentrionale ou Nord Zee'. Based on a French survey undertaken by order of the King and published in Pierre Mortier's sea chart atlas, the Neptune François. This chart would continue to be used by the French Navy for almost a century, a testament to its accuracy and the expense of undertaking surveys.
