Description:
|
|
Detailed chart of the road or approach to Geddah or modern Jeddah, the major port on the west coast of Saudi Arabia. The work was included in the Oriental Pilot, Sayer and Bennett's highly regarded volume of charts designed to navigate to the Far East. This particular map was sourced from Jean Baptiste Nicolas Denis d'Apres de Mannevillette, a captain of the French East India Company who spent seven years correcting existing French charts after recording new geographical details using a newly invented navigation instrument called the octant.
