Stunning carte-a-figure map of France published during the Dutch Golden Age of Cartography. Maps like this with the elaborate borders were some of the most decorative maps published by the great Dutch mapmakers. This map of France features fourteen miniature city views in the upper and lower margins, including Paris, Poitou, Tours, Rouen, Orleans, and La Rochelle. As was typical, the side margins feature costumed figures representing the ordinary dress of French nobles, merchants, lawyers, and peasants (both men and women).
