Description:

Admiralty Chart of the Isle of Skye northward of Loch Ainneart and Sleat Sound. Part of the Admiralty survey of the Western Isles under the superintendence of Commander, later Captain Otter. Commander Otter ultimately became an Admiral but for the purposes of cartography his career is notable as the officer in charge of the Admiralty Survey of Western Scotland and the use of H.M.S. Porcupine as the ship to lay first Transatlantic telegraph cable to Newfoundland under his command. SL [SCOT1718] |
