Description:

|
Ortelius's important and influential map of Moravia, now in the Czech Republic, based on the manuscript map by Paulus Fabricius, an astronomer, physician and mathematician. Although Fabricius originally drew this map, another physician, Johannes Crato von Kraffheim or Johann Krafft may have revised this piece before making it available to Ortelius. The map references the Marcomanni, a famous ancient civilisation contemporaneous to the Roman Empire as well as stating that local noblemen had contributed to its geography. As with many of Ortelius’s maps, it is perceived as a cornerstone map of any collection of maps of the region. Original hand colour. SL [CEU2242] |
