Two maps on one sheet showing the Palatinate of Bavaria and Strassbourg and environs. The Palatinate of Bavaria were the lands ruled by the House of Wittelsbach in Germany, who were also one of the Electors of Empire. The map was originally drawn by Erhard Reych. The map on the right shows the fortress and city of Strassbourg, an extremely important and strategic population centre which changed hands multiple times during its history. The source for this map was Daniel Specklin, a surveyor and cartographer with an expertise in military engineering and the design and construction of fortifications. Original hand colour. [GER2263] |
