Rare folding map of the Gironde region showing the local vineyards together with the Chateaux classified by the Bordeaux Wine Classification system established in 1855. This is the great classic wine map of the Bordeaux region and the earliest map that bears vinicultural information. The map carefully documents the location of the region’s vineyards and their types of wine production according to the Wine Classification system mentioned above. The cartographical survey was prepared by Unal Serres while the vinicultural information was provided by Lodi-Martin Duffour-Dubergier, mayor of Bordeaux, President of the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and owner of the Chateau Smith-Haut Lafitte. The map was first issued in c.1855 with various editions into the 1870s in this separately issued folding format. All editions in this version are very rare. Printed colour. Laid down on new linen.
