Description:
Detailed map showing the route from the Chumbi Valley to the peak of Mount Everest during the Mount Everest Expedition of 1922.

The 1922 expedition was the first mountaineering expedition with the intention of reaching the summit of Mount Everest. In addition to this, it was the first to use bottled oxygen during an ascent on the mountain, and unfortunately, suffered the first reported climbing deaths on the mountain. The expedition did however gain a new world record for reaching the height of 8,326 metres.

This physical map has been created using the data provided from the 1921 British Mount Everest Reconnaisance Expedition. A participant on both of these expeditions was British explorer and mountaineer, George Mallory (1886-1924) who disappeared along with his climbing partner, Andrew Irvine (1902-24), on the North Face of the mountain during the British Mount Everest Expedition of 1924.
