Description:

|
A Ptolemaic map of Egypt and Libya, one of the earliest printed maps of this region. The map extends from the Red Sea across to the Gulf of Sirte with many (largely fictional) mountain ranges, forests, and rivers marked in between.
Published in the 1490 Rome edition of Ptolemy's "Geographia". The Rome edition of Ptolemy is one of the earliest cartographic works to use copper plates for their engraving, thus ensuring a finer and more detailed finished product. |
