Description:
|
|
A handsomely-engraved map of the Caspian Sea with inset panoramas of Astrakhan, Derbent, and Makhachkala (Terki). Cities along the western shore are named, but little detail is provided for the eastern shore as it was little known at the time. Moll credits the source of this map to a Russian survey ordered by Peter the Great in 1718 and undertaken by the Dutch seaman Carl van Verden from 1719-21. [RUS2603] |
