Description:
Golden Island and the Bay of Caledonia of the coast of Darien or modern Panama, showing the main Scots settlement of New Edinburgh.
This is a map of the main settlement of the ill-fated Scottish attempt to establish an overseas colony in Central America off the coast of Panama. The short-lived colony was a disaster on all fronts, but its enormous financial losses to investors in Scotland was one of the direct instigators for the Act of Union of 1707. [WIND4188] |
