Decorative late-17th Century map of the Mughal Empire, a German derivative of the iconic 'Baffin-Roe Map', the first regional map of India in English which was published in 1619 by Sir Thomas Roe (1581-1644) and drawn by the polar explorer, William Baffin (c.1584-1622).
Below the map is a panoramic view of the walled city of Shahjahanabad (now “Old Delhi”) which was founded in 1639, when the 5th Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan decided to shift the capital from Agra.
