Important map of the newly independent state of Connecticut issued in the second domestic atlas published in the United States.
The lower margin bears the legend, “engraved for the American Edition of Winterbotham’s History of America,” a reference to the work for which Reid’s American Atlas was to be a companion, “An Historical, Geographical, Commercial and Philosophical View of the United States”. Ever the canny businessman, Reid however ensured that his atlas was available for purchase as a separate volume.
