Description:
RARE map of Europe, finely engraved, with the Northeast Passage prominently shown and an inset containing delicate miniature costumed figures. The upper edge of the map is dominated by an enormous island, "Nova Zemla", one of the four islands believed by Gerard Mercator to surrounded the North Pole. A note suggests that pygmys inhabit the island.
Strong impression. [EUR829] |
