Fine mid-18th Century chart of the North Sea and the Eastern coast of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Norfolk. The coastline starts at Burlington and Hornsea, heads south to the mouth of the River Humber and the cities of Hull and Grimsby. Follows south still to Skegness and King’s Lynn, and east to Cromer and Eccles-on-Sea
In the top right hand corner an inset map of the coastline from Hornsea to Burlington and Flamborough Head in Yorkshire, oriented west at top.
There is a decorative cartouche styled to appear like a rock, or cliff face with flowers, and with a compass rose on the top. The title of the map is presented in English and in Dutch. Across the map a web of rhumb lines (or loxodromes) and annotations of detailed soundings, sand banks and water channels.
