Description:

Decorative copper-engraved map of the island of Euboea, historically known as Negroponte, and the adjacent mainland of Attica and Central Greece. The city of Chalcis, the island's largest city, is shown as a large and wealthy town, greater even than Athens. Fighting ships are depicted in the surrounding seas, possibly in reference to Venice's attempt to recapture the island from the Ottoman Empire in 1688.
