Description:
Early copper-engraved map of Sardinia, Malta, and Sicily, one of the first modern maps of this region available to the collector. This map was published by Ruscelli in his 1561 edition of Ptolemy's "Geographia", though the geography is not based on Ptolemy’s classical knowledge, but rather on Giacomo Gastaldi’s 1548 'modern' map of Sardinia and Sicily. A clean and crisp example of this handsome map.
Strong impression. [MED1560] |
