Beautiful map of the merchant city of Gdańsk (Danzig) with a large and detailed panoramic view below. The positions of the attacking Russian & Saxon troops during the 1734 Siege of Danzig are also marked. There is also an index to the city's important buildings, both on the map and in the panorama, in the lower-right corner.
Curiously, there are two suburbs of the city named Neu Schottland (New Scotland) and Vorstadt Schottland (Scottish suburb), a testament to the city's important trade links with Scotland, and an indication of the number of Scottish immigrants who moved to Gdańsk starting in the late 14th century. By the time this map was published, it is thought that over 30,000 Scottish immigrants lived in the city, most of whom working as merchants, peddlers, or mercenaries.
