Description:
| Across the top of this map lies a view of Funchal and the South Coast of the Island of Madeira, from Ponta de Cruz to the Brazen Head. Underneath, and above the Plan of the sea route to Funchal, are written observations of the road and island by the honourable Thomas Howe and communicated by Alexander Dalrymple Esquire. Described are the winds, seasons, tides, and the geology of Madeira.
Along the plan itself anchorages are noted with depths, sand form, and a roman numeral to match up with a key set to the right. A key that offers directions for anchorage of vessels and, ‘the appearance from each station of some of the most conspicuous Objects on Shore’. (SL) [AFR3070] |
